The airport and getting here in Redmond

Redmond Municipal Airport, Roberts Field (code RDM), is the main commercial airport for Central Oregon. The airport's own site says it is owned and operated by the City of Redmond and calls it the third largest commercial service airport in Oregon.

Flights

The airport's home page lists about 30 daily flights from five carriers: Alaska, American, Breeze, Delta and United. The nonstop destinations it lists are:

  • Alaska: Burbank, Los Angeles, Portland, San Diego, Seattle and San Francisco
  • American: Phoenix and Dallas/Fort Worth
  • Delta: Seattle and Salt Lake City
  • United: Denver, Los Angeles and San Francisco
  • Breeze: Las Vegas

Routes change by season. Check the airport's airlines page and your airline before you plan a trip.

The terminal and getting around

The airport describes its terminal as about 132,000 square feet, with free Wi-Fi, and says an expansion project will add jet bridges and larger waiting areas. The public area before security is open around the clock. Six car rental agencies are near baggage claim, and private car, taxi, shuttle and rideshare services run 24 hours a day. The site posts live parking availability and a getting-to-the-airport page.

A little history

Wikipedia reports that an Army Air base operated here in the 1940s, that commercial air service began at Roberts Field after World War II, and that in 1981 the Forest Service firejumper base here became the only one in Oregon. The airport's site lists the Forest Service Air Center and the Central Oregon Interagency Dispatch Center among its tenants.
