A plain reading
Redmond is one of the fastest-growing places in Central Oregon: the Portland State University estimate is 14.8 percent above the 2020 Census count. It is younger than Bend (median age 36.2 against 40.9) and less expensive, with a median home value about $256,000 below Bend's. Even so, nearly nine in ten owner-occupied homes are valued at $300,000 or more. Households are mostly families: 8,982 of 13,907, or 64.6 percent, and 6,360 are married-couple households.
Seasonal homes are rare here, about 1 percent of units, which fits a city where most housing is lived in year-round.
How we got these numbers
- Households, tenure, income, home value, age and home-value brackets come from the Census Bureau's American Community Survey (ACS) 5-year estimates for 2020-2024, tables B01003, B11001, B25003, B19013, B25077, B01002, B25075 and B25004, read through Census Reporter's API. Dollars are 2024 inflation-adjusted ACS dollars. These are estimates from a sample, so each carries a margin of error. The seasonal-housing count of 147 has a margin of error of about 132, so treat it as "a small number."
- The 2020 population is the Census count (Census Bureau TIGERweb, Redmond city). The 2025 figure is the certified estimate from Portland State University's Population Research Center, July 1, 2025, from its published spreadsheet of Oregon cities and towns.
- Business counts are from Census ZIP Code Business Patterns 2023 for ZIP code 97756. They are by ZIP code, not by city limit, and they leave out businesses with no paid employees. The Census adds small amounts of noise to employee counts to protect privacy.
