Business and industry in Redmond

This page uses public counts and the descriptions the city and its economic development group publish about themselves. We name no individual businesses.

The count

Census ZIP Code Business Patterns for 2023 shows 1,478 business establishments with paid employees in ZIP code 97756, employing 14,931 people. That is by ZIP code, not city limit, and it leaves out businesses with no paid employees. Employee counts carry small privacy noise added by the Census Bureau.

Economic development

Redmond Economic Development, Inc. (REDI) says it has worked on local prosperity since 1987. REDI lists these target industries: advanced manufacturing, aviation and aerospace, bioscience and medical devices, brewing and distilling, building products, outdoor and lifestyle, agricultural products, warehousing and distribution, and technology. Its site also covers site selection, incentives and grants, and workforce training.

What the city says

The City of Redmond's business pages say much of Redmond is in a state Enterprise Zone, which can offer property tax breaks to some companies, and that operating in the city requires a city business license. The city's urban renewal agency offers grant and loan programs for downtown, and the city reported downtown storefront occupancy at a record 95 percent in 2024. In 2019 the city and Deschutes County approved bringing 949 acres into the urban growth boundary for future industrial use, with 789 acres set aside for industrial parcels.
